Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect the information you share with us.
Last updated: 16 October 2026
The Economic Zones Chamber (also known as the African Economic Zones Chamber, "EZC", "the Chamber", "we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through economiczoneschamber.com, why we collect it, and how it's used, stored and protected.
Information We Collect
We only collect information you choose to give us, through the forms across the site:
- General enquiries (Contact page) — your name, organisation (optional), email address, enquiry topic and message.
- Membership applications (Apply page) — organisation name, contact name, email, phone number, country, tier of interest, sector focus and any message you add.
- Investment opportunities you submit — the opportunity details (title, country, sector, investment type and size, summary, description), your name, organisation, email address and any supporting documents you upload.
- Opportunity enquiries (on individual opportunity pages) — your name, organisation, email, phone number and message.
- Event registrations — your name, organisation, email, phone number and any notes you add.
- Knowledge Centre publication downloads — your name and email address, used to send you a secure download link.
- Investment Opportunity Map requests — your email address, used to send you the document.
- Member accounts — once a membership application is approved, we hold your organisation name, contact name, email, phone, country and a securely hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text) to run your account.
Where a form asks for a phone number, you'll also see a country-code selector — the code and number are stored together as a single phone number.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide to:
- Respond to enquiries, applications and opportunity submissions;
- Deliver the specific thing you asked for — a publication download link, the Investment Opportunity Map, event confirmation, or a reply to your message;
- Review and process membership applications, and administer member accounts once approved;
- Maintain an internal record of enquiries and submissions so our team can follow up appropriately;
- Protect the site against spam and abuse (see Cookies & Automated Protection below); and
- Meet our own legal, accounting and administrative obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Cookies & Automated Protection
The site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Session cookies — used to keep you logged in (member or admin accounts) and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. These are essential to the site working and can't be disabled without breaking login.
- Google reCAPTCHA — protects the Knowledge Centre download form from automated abuse. Google's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to its use.
- Google Analytics — where enabled, helps us understand how the site is used in aggregate (pages visited, general location, device type). It does not identify you individually.
A hidden field on our public forms ("honeypot") helps us silently detect automated bot submissions — it's invisible to real visitors and never used to identify anyone.
Data Storage & Security
Information you submit is stored in the Chamber's database and is accessible only to authorised Chamber staff, who each hold a role-based level of access appropriate to their responsibilities. Passwords are never stored in plain text. Downloadable publications are shared via secure, single-purpose links rather than open access.
Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected — for example, membership records for the life of your membership, and enquiry or submission records long enough to follow up and to maintain our own internal history. You can ask us to delete information we hold about you at any time (see Your Rights below).
Your Rights
You can ask us, at any time, to:
- Confirm what information we hold about you;
- Correct information that's inaccurate or out of date; or
- Delete information we hold about you, where we're not required to keep it for a legitimate business or legal reason.
To exercise any of these, email us at africa.office@economiczoneschamber.com.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for business and institutional audiences. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and any submission we become aware was made by a minor will be deleted.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site and our practices evolve. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
